I just received the Silky Hayate 12-foot telescoping pole saw. This is no box-store pole saw, but rather, a commercial-grade tool ideal for the professional landscaper or homeowner who values a quality pole saw. The balance and build is excellent. The oval-shaped concentric extension pole snaps securely into place to prevent slipping during cutting. The blade is super sharp and cuts on the down-pull. It sliced through several substantial branches on our Redwood trees with just a few firm strokes. A razor-sharp sickle blade on the bottom of the main saw blade slices small twigs and branches like butter. I love the rubberized handle that covers nearly half the length of the main shaft. Other models in the same line are available that included additional extension sections to reach up to 20′. This unit under review is the 12-foot version. From the package:

    * Superior wear resistance cutting edge/blade

    * Taper ground profile reduces drag

    * Ultra-sharp non-set tooth design cuts quickly, leaving smooth surface

    * Tooth design provides outstanding performance for cross, rip, and slant cuts

    * Hard chrome plating resists resin and prevents corrosion

    * Custom designed durable polypropylene sheath protects the blade when not in use

This is a superior product in all regards. With the replaceable blades, this pole saw will be handed down for generations and is an investment in your landscape. I didn’t realize what I was missing until I decided to purchase a high-end product such as this. It would be hard to go back to the consumer-quality saws, despite the 5-to-1 price difference. Nothing like the right tool for the job.

I was amazed at how light and well-balanced this 12′ pole saw was and how quickly it cuts. I can extend it over my head at full arms reach and drop it over a branch 20′ off the ground and quickly cut the limb. This saw cuts 1″ fir limbs in one or two strokes and 4″ fir limbs in just a few seconds, yet will not snag and hang up on even the smallest limb. In the week I have had it I have cut hundreds of fir limbs and dozens of oak limbs – even a 4″ oak branch can be cut in about 1 minute. It was only with 7″ oak branches that I felt that I might have tackled too much, though I could still cut the large branches. I really love the sickle for cutting small branches and preventing bark tears. Years ago I purchased a different pole saw but the blade was so aggressive that it dug into the branch and quickly bound up. On this saw even when the branch twisted and pinched the blade tight, I was able to pull hard and complete the cut. I have been given two other pole saws but they do not extend and they cut slowly. I had planned to buy either a battery powered electric saw like the Black and Decker pole saw or a gas saw like the Echo – but I hefted the saws in big box stores and found them heavy and awkward. At 65 years old, I was afraid I would be unable to handle them. I was also worried about the batteries running down too quickly on the B&D and also about battery failure. I am so thankful I decided on the Silky Hayate 12 foot pole saw. It was clearly worth the extra cost of buying the best – it is a lifetime tool that will be passed on to my children.
